Image utility

Pick Colors from an Image

Sample colors from supported JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF images locally. ResizeNest maps zoomed preview coordinates back to normalized source pixels, reads the original decoded pixels in a worker and keeps image bytes on your device.

No account is required. Choose a file and work directly in this browser.

Processing runs in your browser. Local files are not uploaded to a ResizeNest processing server. With URL import, your browser connects directly to the source website; ResizeNest does not relay the file. Direct URL import works only when the source website allows cross-origin reading.

Drop one image hereor paste an image. Sampling uses normalized original pixels in a worker, not the scaled preview.

Private by design

image processing stays in your browser. ResizeNest does not need your original image uploaded to an application server.

Real output

Results come from the actual processing pipeline, with measured dimensions, bytes and format instead of placeholder estimates.

Simple workflow

A focused single-image workspace keeps the controls clear and the result easy to verify.

Three simple steps

How to use pick colors from an image

  1. 01

Choose, drop or paste one supported raster image and inspect it on the local zoomable canvas.

  2. 02

    Click or tap a source point, or enter X/Y, then choose single-pixel, 3 × 3 or 5 × 5 alpha-aware sampling.

  3. 03

Copy HEX/RGBA, build up to 20 palette swatches, then copy CSS variables or download JSON/TXT on the same route.

Useful details

Built for a clear, predictable result

Understand what the tool does before you download the result.

01

Samples source pixels, not the thumbnail

The preview can zoom, pan and use a HiDPI backing store, but sampling maps back to normalized source coordinates and the worker decodes the immutable original bytes before reading the requested pixel neighborhood.

02

Transparent pixels are reported honestly

A fully transparent pixel reports alpha zero and does not pretend its hidden RGB channels are a definite visible color. Averaged modes use premultiplied color math before unpremultiplying the result.

03

sRGB browser baseline

HEX, RGB and HSL are reported in the verified browser sRGB baseline. HDR, Display-P3, CMYK and unsupported higher-bit-depth paths are blocked instead of being labeled exact print or source-profile colors.

04

Palette export stays local

Palette JSON is versioned and contains color space, sample mode, swatches and source coordinates. It does not include image bytes, filename or GPS metadata; TXT and clipboard fallbacks are generated locally.

05

One image at a time

Color Picker is a single-image utility. Clear or choose another image to switch sources; the palette/session is reset so swatches are not silently mixed across files.

Questions, answered

Frequently asked questions

Does zoom change the sampled color?

No. Zoom and HiDPI only change how the preview is drawn. Pointer coordinates are mapped back to the original normalized source pixel before the worker samples it.

What do 3 × 3 and 5 × 5 averaging mean?

They average the clipped source-pixel neighborhood around the selected coordinate using premultiplied alpha, then convert the resulting sRGB color to HEX/RGBA/HSL.

Is a fully transparent pixel black?

Not necessarily. ResizeNest reports alpha zero and marks the visible color as not meaningful rather than presenting hidden RGB channels as a definite visible black.

Does the palette export include my image or metadata?

No. JSON/TXT contains palette color data and sample coordinates only; it does not embed image bytes, filename or GPS metadata.

Does this tool match CMYK, Pantone or print output?

No. This tool reports the verified browser sRGB baseline and blocks unsupported color/profile states rather than promising print matching.
