Remove Personal Metadata from Images

Inspect and remove supported personal metadata from still JPEG, PNG and WebP files in your browser. The default mode rewrites recognized container metadata without rebuilding image pixels, while technical data needed for correct display can be retained and reported.

Processing runs in your browser. Local files are not uploaded to a ResizeNest processing server. With URL import, your browser connects directly to the source website; ResizeNest does not relay the file. Direct URL import works only when the source website allows cross-origin reading.

Drop still JPEG, PNG or WebP files hereMetadata inspection and processing stay local. Unsupported or ambiguous container sections are reported instead of being called clean.

Private by design

image processing stays in your browser. ResizeNest does not need your original image uploaded to an application server.

Real output

Results come from the actual processing pipeline, with measured dimensions, bytes and format instead of placeholder estimates.

Simple workflow

Process one image or a local batch, then download current successful results.

Three simple steps

How to use remove personal metadata from images

  1. 01

Choose still JPEG, PNG or WebP images. ResizeNest parses supported metadata locally and summarizes personal groups, technical fields and unsupported sections without sending GPS data to a map or network service.

  2. 02

Use Remove personal metadata for the default container-level rewrite, or explicitly opt into Rebuild image when you accept pixel re-encoding and possible color or bit-depth changes.

  3. 03

Process, review Removed/Kept/Unsupported and verification status, then download a current clean result or ZIP without leaving /remove-image-metadata.

Useful details

Built for a clear, predictable result

Understand what the tool does before you download the result.

01

Personal metadata and technical metadata are different

Supported EXIF personal fields, GPS, dates, device data, XMP, IPTC, comments and embedded EXIF thumbnails can be removed. ICC/color information and minimal orientation data may be retained when needed for correct display, and the report says what was kept.

02

Default mode does not rebuild image pixels

JPEG marker rewriting keeps entropy-coded scan bytes unchanged; PNG keeps IDAT bytes; WebP keeps compressed image payload chunks. Container lengths, CRCs and flags are rewritten and the output is parsed again before it is treated as verified.

03

Rebuild mode is intentionally different

Rebuild decodes pixels and creates a new image through the shared raster pipeline. JPEG is lossy re-encoded even at high quality, and higher bit depth, HDR or source color precision may not survive. Explicit consent is required.

04

Coverage is reported, not guessed

Unknown, corrupt, animated or unsupported container sections are not silently labelled clean. If ResizeNest cannot verify the requested personal metadata removal for supported parser coverage, the file does not receive a primary clean-download result.

05

Privacy has limits

Removing supported metadata does not make an image anonymous or untraceable. Faces, text, landmarks, visible addresses and other image content can still reveal identity or location.

06

Local batch export

Each file keeps its own coverage and report. Reruns read the immutable original, and ZIP export includes only current successful cleaned outputs—not original files or a sensitive metadata report.

Questions, answered

Frequently asked questions

Does this remove absolutely all metadata?

No. The promise is removal of supported personal metadata in recognized JPEG, PNG and WebP sections. Technical fields can be retained, and unsupported sections are reported rather than silently claimed removed.

Will GPS coordinates be shown or sent somewhere?

GPS presence can be reported, but detailed GPS data is hidden by default and is not sent to an external map or network service by this tool.

Does the default mode change JPEG image pixels?

No. The metadata-only JPEG writer preserves the entropy-coded scan bytes and rewrites recognized metadata markers around them. Rebuild mode is separate.

Why does rebuild require confirmation?

Rebuild decodes and encodes a new image. JPEG is lossy re-encoded, and bit depth, HDR or color precision can change, so explicit consent is required.

Does metadata removal make an image anonymous?

No. Removing supported metadata can reduce embedded personal information, but visible image content can still identify people, places or documents.
